Los Angeles County firefighters appear to have gotten a handle on the Max Fire, but not before the fire scorched an estimated 500 acres of brush and burned some structures and cars in Lancaster Sunday.

Both cars were thrown far off the side of the road.

Jose Maria Cuatro Jr. and Ursula Elaine Juarez were sentenced Tuesday for the death of their son, Noah, in July 2019.

Germarcus Lamar David was convicted on five counts of first-degree murder for the Nov. 28, 2021 killings of his kids, Namiyah, Germarcus Jr., Kayden and Noah, and his mother-in-law, Ericka England.

Prospero Guadalupe Serna was charged Oct. 31, 2023 with two counts of murder after he allegedly attacked the children in their mother's Lancaster home.

15-year-old Susana Almarez and her son Jason were reported missing Thursday after they were last seen in Lancaster.

One woman died after she was thrown from the car, when another ran a red light in Lancaster.

Deputies were called to the scene just before 12 p.m. Friday.

"He knows what he did," the deputy district attorney told jurors that he "did it to get back" at his estranged wife. "He's finished off those that she loved."

Bodycam video has been released showing the fatal shooting of a suspect armed with machetes at a Lancaster grocery store last month.

Investigators have ruled the death of three-year-old David Jacques Hernandez a homicide. His mother's live-in boyfriend, Rena Naulls, has been arrested and named as a suspect in the investigation.
