A Los Angeles Police Department sergeant has died of complications from COVID-19, Chief Michel Moore announced Wednesday.

Los Angeles has experienced more than double the number of homicides during the first 12 days of 2021 than during the same period of 2020, Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore said.

Tuesday's data comes as 2020 finished with a 38% increase in homicides and more than 350 additional shooting victims.
