Earthquake Magnitude 3.1 Strikes Near Pacoima

SAN FERNANDO, Calif. (AP) - A small earthquake struck a well-populated area just north of Los Angeles, but caused no reported damage or injuries.

The U.S. Geological Survey said in a preliminary report that the magnitude-3.1 quake with a depth of about five miles happened just before 9 p.m. Wednesday and was centered about 4 miles north of San Fernando near Interstate 210.

A sharp jolt was widely felt in the San Fernando Valley and parts of northern Los Angeles County. But police and fire departments say there have been no problems reported.
