Lawsuit settled after LA coroner allegedly gave body to wrong family

A lawsuit filed by relatives of a 49-year-old man found dead on a Boyle Heights sidewalk in 2019, alleging negligence by Los Angeles County and the coroner after the decedent's body was mistakenly given to members of another family, was settled, the plaintiffs' attorney said Thursday.

Prosecutors said the gang threw Molotov cocktails into a housing development in Boyle Heights in 2014 in order to force the African American residents out of their homes. A mother who was sleeping with her infant baby on her chest at the time of the attack barely evaded being hit by a firebomb when she rolled off the couch with her baby after hearing a window shatter.
