COPY-COPY-Police Pursuit Of Erratic Suspect On Local Freeways

(FOX 11 / CNS) A motorist who stopped a car on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway and started throwing things at passing traffic was arrested today by California Highway Patrol officers, who used a patrol car to nudge the vehicle into a spin as its driver briefly drove the wrong way.

The chase ended about 9 a.m. on the northbound 5 Freeway near Garfield Avenue, where CHP officers used a PIT maneuver to force the suspect's vehicle into a spin, CHP Officer Kevin Tao said.

Another CHP vehicle struck the vehicle in its side and boxed it in, and an officer broke out at least one window before the driver was dragged out and arrested.

At least three northbound lanes were closed, and traffic quickly backed up.

The chase began on the northbound 5 Freeway Rosecrans Avenue, where officers were dispatched on reports that a motorist was driving erratically and had stopped and got out of his vehicle, Tao said.

Officers ordered the man to surrender, but he got back into the car and drove off, Tao said.

Toward the end of the chase, the man made a U-turn and drive south in the northbound lanes, Tao said. Shortly afterward, the CHP forced the car to stop.
