California teen mows lawns to earn money for a date with his girlfriend

A California teen wanted to take his girlfriend out on a date, but didn't have enough money -- so he offered to mow his neighbors' lawns for $5.

A photo posted to Facebook last week by user Ryan Cox says he was approached by 14-year-old Cody Mitschelin, who asked if he could cut his front lawn.

Since Cox was "a hustler," he asked the 14-year-old why he was trying to mow people's lawns.

"I'd like to take my girlfriend to lunch tomorrow and I don't have enough money," the teen replied.

Cox wrote that he so impressed with Mitschelin, that he helped him achieve his goal by going door-to-door to ask other neighbors if they needed their lawns mowed or sidewalks swept.

The 14-year-old made enough money to take his girlfriend to lunch AND buy her flowers, Cox said.

This 14 year old boy came by the house with a lawnmower wanting to mow our lawn for $5. Well...me being a hustler I had...

"I'm so happy this still exists… Hope is still alive for the future generation and our sons and daughters. I'm impressed by whoever is raising this boy, great job!!! Thanks to you guys that also noticed and pitched in on the cause to building our future men," the Facebook post reads in part.
