Assault, burglary suspects with dog arrested after pursuit

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. (FOX 11) - What a night and what a job by LAPD's Foothill station in securing and tracking down two suspects on the run in a multi-unit apartment complex in Woodland Hills.

The story starts when officers with the LAPD's Foothill Station received a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. According to the caller, a 29-year-old female had assaulted his girlfriend. And he told police she was armed with a gun that she had stolen in a burglary a few weeks ago. The caller was able to give police a description of the white Honda she was in and when patrol officers later spotted the car on the freeway with the woman in it, they say they tried pulling it over but the man behind the wheel did not want to stop and the pursuit was on.

On the 405, the 101 and the streets of the San Fernando Valley, the couple, with a puppy inside the car, led police to an apartment complex on Burbank, just off Topanga.

It was there they dumped the car and the puppy, and made a run for it into the large apartment complex.

The logistics were challenging for police officers as the couple made their way through the building.
At times, through the echoing hallways, please reported hearing the couple arguing as they ran.

Just moments later though patrol officers caught them and both were taken into custody.

You could hear the male suspect sobbing hysterically from a block away as an ambulance arrived to check him out.

Force wasn't used according to police so why was he crying?

"He's what we call tweaking", Foothill Sergeant Charles Coleman told me. "He's heavily high on methamphetamine which he admitted to smoking during the pursuit and before the pursuit. He was just having fun."

Watching the man wail and twitch, it certainly didn't look like he was having fun but even though he appeared to be in distress he still managed to flash a couple of gang signs at our camera.

Sigh.

He'll be booked for felony evading later.

As for the woman, she was taken into custody too and is expected to be booked for assault with a deadly weapon and burglary.

Police confirmed that no force was used in taking either suspect into custody.

Meanwhile the poor puppy was loved on by the officers there and also got a ride in a squad car. He'll be turned over to Animal Control later.
