The shooting was reported just before 3:30 p.m. in the 9100 block of Telfair Avenue, where Sun Valley High School is located, according to the Los Angeles police and fire departments.
Four students -- all boys -- and a 34-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening injuries from some kind of non-lethal weapon and were taken to a hospital, Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
A Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said it appeared the victims were shot with a pellet gun, but referred additional questions to school police, who were investigating.
It was not immediately clear if anyone was taken into a custody or if a weapon was recovered.
