Public schools on Maui are starting the process of reopening and vehicle traffic is moving again in signs of recovery a week after wildfires demolished a historic town and killed at least 110 people.

The governor asked for patience as authorities became overwhelmed with requests to visit the burn area.

The Baker Fire burned approximately five acres within minutes.

The death toll stands at 99, but Hawaii Gov. Josh Green said 10 to 20 people might be found dead each day for the next several days.
