Deputies sent to the 3800 block of Walnut Street about 8:40 p.m. Monday on a "rescue call" found the tot, who had been stabbed in the upper body, said sheriff's Deputy Kelvin Moody.

The boy was listed in critical condition this morning, according to sheriff's Deputy Crystal Hernandez, who said the child was not expected to survive.

"Family members that were present at the residence are currently being interviewed by detectives at the East Los Angeles Sheriff's Station," Moody said.

As of 9:30 a.m., there had been no arrests, according to Hernandez.

The boy's name was not immediately released.
