NASA DC-8 jet spotted over Altadena flying at low altitude

What's NASA up to? SoCal residents took notice when their DC-8 plane was seen flying at a low altitude over Altadena late Monday afternoon.

With the country celebrating the anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing mission, it's hard not to geek out over a big NASA jet flying along the foothills of Southern California -- maybe even imagining what cool space missions are being planned aboard the jet or who is on it.

The plane with the call sign NASA817, took off from the Palmdale Regional Airport with a destination of Gowen Field in Boise, Idaho.
