Man arrested following standoff in Echo Park

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11) - Residents received quite the shock after a heavy police presence showed up in the area of Echo Park Avenue and Effie Street in Echo Park Saturday morning.

Los Angeles police responded to a drunk and disorderly man that had run into a market with a knife. A standoff followed, according to authorities. A Los Angeles Fire Department crew was on standby to assist with the incident.

Twitter video from a witness shows law enforcement officers walking in tandem while holding a shield alongside a police vehicle.

The owner of the market ran out and police were able to take the suspect into custody about an hour and a half after the incident began. No injuries were reported.
