LAUSD vs. Pathways Charter School: The battle for classrooms and office space

SOUTH LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11) - According to the charter school Pathways in Los Angeles, throughout the day on Tuesday - nearly 250 students and 3 teachers couldn't use the the classrooms within a school building run by the LAUSD.

The charter school's executive director, Erica Hamilton says they were shifted other classrooms - moved onto the hallways, even had to go onto bleachers.

The charter school says the three rooms they were supposed to be in were left empty on Tuesday.

Officials from the LAUSD says the charter school director knew exactly how many classrooms they would get back in April - and they are trying to tackle the problem.

An LAUSD superintendent for this area says they visited every classroom in the building today and they will take that information back to the district.

He says they are optimistic they will find a solution.

"I feel like it's selfish because we also come to this school to learn just like their students, so I feel like we should be given an opportunity to have a chance to learn too and not just - cause that not effects those students it affects all students," said Markiel McNabb, student at Pathways Charter School.

"We were told to go outside and do what we're supposed to do our work outside on the lunch benches. It was really difficult," Alberto Perez, student at Pathways Charter School.

LAUSD claims they are trying to come up with a solution.

Pathways executive director said that for tomorrow, she may have to combine classes - that could mean up to 50 or 60 kids per classroom.
