Law enforcement conducted raids on Friday morning in connection with the investigation into the shooting death of an off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer, officials said.

The raid in Mt. Washington took place about a mile from the scene where LAPD Officer Juan Jose Diaz, 24, was shot early Saturday in the area of Avenue 26 and Artesian Street after he reportedly tried to confront a group of men who were vandalizing the area, authorities said.

Three people were arrested in connection to the killing following the raids, according to Mayor Garcetti.

Diaz was eating at a taco stand with his girlfriend and her two brothers at the time of the shooting. He asked the group of taggers to stop, that's when the group claimed their gang involvement, officials said. Officer Diaz and his friends then drove off in their pick-up truck and according to LAPD the men shot at them, killing Diaz and injuring one of his girlfriend's brothers.
