First case of Zika found in Ventura County

The first case of Zika virus has been found in Ventura County, according to health officials.

Ventura County Public Health confirmed that a resident who is not believed to be pregnant recently rested positive for the virus after traveling to Latin America.

The woman's symptoms were mild and she was never hospitalized.

This case marks the 171st diagnosed in California according to state health officials.

The virus has infected 24 pregnant women in California and so far two children have been born with birth defects believed to be related to the virus.
