A mom's plea and a search for two hit and run drivers

(FOX 11/CNS) - A pedestrian was struck and injured by a hit-and-run driver in South Los Angeles today while taking part in a vigil for a bicyclist who was killed at the same location a day earlier, also by a hit-and-run motorist.

"This is my son. He was somebody…he was somebody." The words of Beverly Owens the mother of Frederick Frazier. Frazier killed Tuesday by a hit and run driver behind the wheel of a Porsche Cayenne. Owens doesn't think it was intentional, but now adds, "They turned an accident into a crime."

Police are now looking for the driver that hit and killed Frazier and a driver in a gold colored Toyota that 24 hours later hit a man attending a vigil for Frazier at the same intersection. Police say when the mourners started taking over the intersection things got chaotic and police moved in. During that time a driver allegedly tried pushing through the crowd and hit another man; a friend of Frazier's according to his mom.

She wants whoever drove a Porsche into her son caught and is making a public plea. The LAPD says both drivers are still outstanding.

Video from the scene shows the vehicle striking the pedestrian, who is tossed into the air and lands on the pavement. He then gets up and hops on one foot to the sidewalk, where he collapses to the ground. His condition was not immediately available.

Some of the dozens of bicyclists taking part in the vigil immediately began following the motorist, while some tried running after the driver on foot. The sedan, however, disappeared in the distance.

Due to the vigil, Los Angeles police were already on the scene when the pedestrian was struck.

Some rocks and bottles were thrown toward responding officers and a patrol vehicle, but no officers were injured and no arrests were made, Im said. Police swarmed and cleared the intersection, but not before a department SUV had its rear window smashed. The SUV's tires had been flattened by the time it was towed from the scene, according to a news photographer at the location.

Im said the vigil was being held at the intersection in memory of a bicyclist who was struck by a hit-and-run motorist around 1 p.m. Tuesday. The bicyclist died at a hospital, he said.

According to the LAPD's South Traffic Division, the bicyclist killed Tuesday was a man in his early 20s, who was struck by a white Porsche Cayenne SUV.

The driver of the SUV was heading east on Manchester when the bicyclist was struck then turned south on Budlong before traveling turning west. It was last seen westbound near La Salle Avenue Elementary School, police said.
