Weird Weather: Huntington Beach residents wake up to hail covering the ground

It’s only the first week of November and Southern California is already seeing oddly low temperatures.

Residents across SoCal got quite a surprise when they woke up Saturday morning to rain and hail.

The sky may have appeared clear but several residents in Huntington Beach got hailed on.

The National Weather Service reported lighting strikes near Culver City. In a Tweet, they explain the lightning is associated with moisture from the south and expect additional strikes in Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara.

A hard freeze warning was in effect until 10 a.m. Saturday morning in the Antelope Valley as temperatures dipped into the low 20s.
If you have crops outside be sure to take precautions during the colder months as frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Meteorologists say to prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

Firefighters are taking advantage of the colder temps and increased containment on the Getty Fire and Maria Fire.

“Weather is proving to be more favorable over the next couple of days with weak offshore winds of 10-15 mph expected,'' according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A red flag warning signifying a high risk of wildfires will be in effect until at least 6 p.m. Saturday in the interior mountains of Los Angeles
County and the Santa Clarita Valley as a result of more gusty northeast winds and very low humidity. The National Weather Service forecast says prolonged dry conditions could continue through Sunday or Monday ... with widespread minimum humidity under 10%. Forecasters said there is a small chance the red flag warnings could be extended into Sunday.
