Sela Ward discusses role as first female president in 'Independence Day: Resurgence'

Actress Sela Ward plays the first female president of the United States in the upcoming film "Independence Day: Resurgence."

Besides other presidential duties, her character is tasked with saving mankind from an alien forces.

Ward said to prepare for the role, she looked to Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail.

"I did watch how did she greet an audience, how did she approach the podium," she said. "Really more her physical mannerisms."

The film uses a lot of special effects -- which was also a new experience for Ward.

"I've never worked like that before," she said. "You're in front of a green screen and you have no idea what's behind you, and when I actually saw it for the first time, which was last night believe it or not, I went oh my god! That's what was behind me?"

"Independence Day: Resurgence" opens in theaters June 24.
