Anti-fascism protesters march through streets of Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (FOX 11) - Hundreds of anti fascism protesters took to the streets of downtown Los Angeles on Sunday to protest white supremacy and the deadly events that unfolded in Charlottesville this weekend.
The event was organized by a group called Refuse Fascism, and began on the steps of LA city hall shortly after 2pm.
"We are here to say no. We are here to stand with the people of Charlottesville, they were on the right side of history, when they took to the streets to oppose those fascist KKK white supremacist swamp things," an organizer said over a megaphone. "Anybody who is opposed to this rally is defending the KKK, they're defending nazis and white supremacy, there is a line dividing society right now, which fu**ing side are people on?
Protesters held up signs denouncing the Trump administration, and said his presidency has emboldened extremist groups.
"We're out here to say we don't want these kinds of people on our streets attacking our people and killing people like they did in Charlottesville," Alex said. "It's important to show the government and the entire system that together we are not going to stand for this kind of violence we're sick and tired of Nazis, of white supremacists being allowed to march and spew their hatred."
The crowd eventually marched through the streets of downtown LA, and LAPD told FOX 11 the group did not have a permit to do so.
There were no counter protesters, and no arrests were made.
A second rally was held at Harvey Milk park in Long Beach, where a large ground gathered to speak out against the Trump administration, and call for his impeachment.
There were chants of "Lock him up!", and numerous people blamed the Trump administration for Charlottesville, as they say his rhetoric has emboldened white supremacy groups.
