LA's Most Wanted: Shooting death of Linda Newsom

Linda Newsom was a 58-year-old woman who lived in her car in the area around Florence Avenue and Compton Boulevard near Huntington Park.

On Wednesday night, May 19, 2010 at about 8:30, Newsom was working on her car near the Auto Zone store at Florence and Compton. As she was under the hood a man walked up and shot her then got into a waiting car and drove away.

Newsom died of her wound.

Investigators believe Newsom's murder was a case of mistaken gender.

The clothing she wore was not gender-specific and the fact she was working on a car at night could have led someone to believe she was a man.

Anyone who saw something that night or who has heard anything since then is asked to call Detective Ron Duval at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau: (323) 890-5500.
