71-year old woman thrown from upper-story apartment window, beaten to death by son

VAN NUYS, Calif. (FOX 11) - LAPD Van Nuys Homicide detectives are investigating a murder scene at an apartment in the 7000 block of Hazeltine Avenue after a 71-year old woman was reportedly thrown out of a 2nd story window and beaten to death.

The suspect is the woman's son.

Police got the call just after 2:00a.m. Monday morning when a witness passing by noticed the violent incident.

After witnessing the woman being thrown from the second story apartment window, the son reportedly jumped out of the window after her. Witnesses report he then continued to beat her and jump up and down on her body as she lay on the ground in a pool of blood.

The woman was pronounced dead shortly thereafter at a nearby hospital. The 40-year old son was taken into custody by LAPD officers. It's speculated that the man may have been under the influence of an unknown substance at the time of the attack.
