The Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays are set to play in Game 4 of the World Series the night after an 18-inning showdown.

Recapping the 18-inning spectacular

What we know:

Monday night’s game clocked in at 6 hours and 39 minutes. This is history repeating itself as the Dodgers played the Red Sox in the 2018 World Series the last time a game in the Fall Classic went 18 innings. That game lasted 7 hours and 20 minutes.

Forty-four players appeared in Monday night’s game, including 19 pitchers with 609 pitches thrown.

The Dodgers outhit the Blue Jays 16-15 in a game that included a 10-inning double shutout — no runs were scored from innings eight through 17. Los Angeles went 2 for 14 with runners in scoring position and stranded 18 runners, and Toronto was 2 for 12 RISP with 19 left on base.

"It takes everybody to win a World Series," said the Dodgers’ Max Muncy, who hit the winning 18th-inning homer against Nathan Eovaldi in 2018 — the only LA win in that Series.

What's next:

Two-way talent Shohei Ohtani is set to take the mound for LA.

The start comes about 17 hours after he finished one of the greatest games in Series history, tying an MLB record by reaching base nine times, including two homers and four extra-base hits, in an 18-inning classic that ended on Freddie Freeman’s homer.

"I like to encourage kids who are trying the two-way to do it as long as possible, as long as they’re allowed to, as much as their talent level could take them," he said through a translator.

Toronto RHP Shane Bieber makes his first World Series start and fourth of this postseason in Game 4 on Tuesday.
