Man stabbed near Metro station in Long Beach

An investigation is underway after officials said a man was found stabbed on a Metro station platform in Long Beach on Wednesday morning. 

What we know:

Long Beach police officers were called to the intersection of Pacific Avenue and 5th Street, near Metro’s Pacific Station , following reports of a stabbing at 5 a.m. Wednesday, April 1. 

Arriving officers discovered a man with stab wounds to his upper body. The victim was taken to an area hospital in an unknown condition. 

What they're saying:

Metro released a statement on Wednesday morning.

"Metro appreciates the good work of the A line train operator who sought help for an injured individual they observed lying on the Pacific Station platform. The Long Beach Fire Department and Long Beach Police Department (LAPD) responded to the scene.

The victim was transported away to a local hospital.

While the investigation is ongoing, A-Line South Stations are turning back from Anaheim station with a shuttle train servicing 5th St, 1st Street, and Downtown Long Beach stations.  A bus bridge is being established between Pacific and Anaheim Stations."

What we don't know:

The name of the stabbing victim has not been released and information about a possible suspect was not available. The investigation is ongoing.
