Fountain Valley officers shoot, kill man who got into officers car with a gun
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. - Fountain Valley Police officers shot and killed a man who was allegedly trying to break into cars in the area Friday morning.
Officers were called out to Mateo Street around 11 a.m. Friday, after people reported seeing a man breaking into vehicles, including an occupied vehicle.
When the officers got there, the man ran off and officers chased him. What happened next is unclear, but the FVPD said that "a scuffle occurred between the officers and the suspect."
SUGGESTED:
- Rideshare driver killed, run over by his own vehicle in Phoenix
- Homeless man with 'distinctive' eyebrow tattoos on the run after Fontana attack, police say
During that scuffle, the man was able to get into an officer's vehicle, and flashed a gun at one of the officers. That's when officers shot the man. The department said it's unclear whether the gun belonged to the man, or if he got it from inside the officer's car.
After the shooting, officers pulled him out of the car to try and give him aid, but he died at the scene.
The department is investigating the shooting.
