Woman, 4-Year Old Child Injured In Long Beach Apartment Fire

The two-alarm fire was reported in a third-floor apartment in the 1000 block of Stanley Avenue just after midnight, Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Jake Heflin said.
There were four residents at the apartment, but only two -- the 47-year-old woman and her daughter -- were there at the time of the fire, Heflin said.
About 50 firefighters took just over 10 minutes to knock down the blaze, Heflin said. The cause of the fire was under investigation, he said.

A woman and her 4-year-old daughter are in critical condition after an apartment fire in Long Beach.

Residents in the three story apartment building were evacuated just after midnight late Wednesday night.
The 47-year-old woman and her daughter were found lying in bed when firefighters broke through the bedroom window. Neighbors unsuccessfully attempted to rescue the two before being pushed back by the heavy smoke.
Emergency crews performed CPR on the mother and daughter. The two were taken to St. Mary Medical Center. The little girl was later transported to the burn unit at a Torrance Hospital. Two other residents who live in the third floor apartment were not home apartment the time.
Fire officials say 2 dogs inside the apartment did not survive.
The Long Beach Fire Department is investigating the cause. Investigators say smoke alarms were discovered in the home but it's unclear if they were in working order.
