Wednesday's Child celebrates adoption day for Dharius!
(FOX 11) - Congratulations to the Garcia-Ponce family. The family officially became one on November 17th, on National Adoption Day.
Three siblings once in foster care were re-united through adoption. Dharius had been in a separate foster home from siblings Zulehika and Sergio. First-time parents Christine Ponce and Javier Garcia had always wanted to adopt.
Dharius, and the search to find him an adoptive family, aired on Wednesday's Child. The other two children were already in the Garcia-Ponce home. The family even moved from an apartment to a home to aid Dharius and his medical needs, which include a wheelchair.
Christine Ponce is a school counselor. Husband Javier Garcia is a law clerk. Ponce says she always knew adoption would be her first choice for bringing children into their lives. Garcia says the children give him new purpose in life.
Los Angeles County National Adoption Day took place on November 17, 2018. 203 children said good-bye to the child welfare system with their forever families through adoption. Initially separated from his siblings, our Wednesday's Child, Dharius had his adoption finalized together with them on this day.
Presiding Judge Daniel Buckley presided over this family's adoption.
The head of DCFS Bobby Cagle was in attendance as was Wednesday's Child coordinator, social worker Will Wong.
