Vehicle careens off SB 101 Freeway, killing pedestrian and crashing into building

A pedestrian was killed Thursday morning and another was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle that careened off the Southbound 101 Freeway and crashed into a building.

Los Angeles Police Department patrol units responded at 4:23 a.m. to the Vine Street off-ramp of the freeway where a pedestrian had been struck and killed, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to a hospital in an unknown condition.

The vehicle ran off the freeway, crashed through a series of trees and into a building.

The collision caused the closure of the freeway at the Vine Street exit for several hours.

Authorities are still investigating what caused the driver to careen off of the freeway.

Additional details were not immediately available.
