Trump star draws fights, vandalism and words

LOS ANGELES, CA (FOX 11) - Vandalism and fist fights are not what the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce wants to see happening on its Walk of Fame- one of LA's greatest tourist attractions.

The fighting follows the 2016 jack hammering/ax damaging of the star and a recent pickaxing of Donald Trump's star in front of Hollywood and Highland.

As a spokesperson with the Chamber told me "It's embarrassing. We're looking like a laughing stock. There are children here. We need to set an example!" So, we asked tourists if what's going on is casting a negative image on Hollywood? One tourist told us "I think so, yeah." Another said, "No it doesn't. I would say its more the freedom of speech."

Kyle Jeffreys and Cat Duncan from Birmingham, Alabama told FOX 11 they want to see someone else do what Austin Clay and James Otis are accused of doing. Clay allegedly behind the recent pick-axing. Otis the jack hammering in 2016. TMZ saying the two met in Beverly Hills over the weekend to talk about their legal cases.

Each year 48 million tourists come from all over the world and spend some 23 billion dollars when they get here. Many look forward to seeing the Hollywood Walk of Fame and take pictures with their favorite stars like Britney Spears.

To some what's going on here is very unfortunate.

One tourist from upper New York calling it a "disgrace". Trissean McDonald from LA tell us, "The fights. They're a bit extreme. They're kind of childish in a way. We're supposed to be adults. We're supposed to voice our opinions."

That includes politicians visiting our fair city. Kentucky State Senator Rick Girdler, whose a big fan of the president, told us "I think he's the greatest thing we've had for a long time in America."

And, like his friend Karen Fischer says, "I just think its just wrong to vandalize anything whether you agree with his politics or not."

Regardless of your politics, there is a price to pay for vandalism. It costs $2,500 to replace these stars. When they're first acquired some of the money paid goes to the Hollywood Historic Trust for repairs. That's how these stars are getting fixed, according to the Chamber of Commerce.

Meanwhile, Mary Mataias is really bummed about what's happening here. She told FOX 11, "It is disappointing because I did come here to take a picture with Donald Trump's star."
