Police use tear gas to end barricade at Sherman Oaks motel
SHERMAN OAKS (FOX 11 / CNS) - A barricade situation at a motel in Sherman Oaks ended this morning after Los Angeles police SWAT officers fired tear gas canisters into a room where a robbery suspect had taken refuge, police said.
It began around 11:35 p.m. Tuesday when officers received a call of a robbery in progress at the 777 Motor Inn in the 4700 block of Sepulveda Boulevard, according to Los Angeles police Sgt. Luis Rosas. Only one suspect was believed to be involved, he said.
Around 5:30 a.m., SWAT officers fired at least eight tear gas canisters into a room. Moments later, a man walked out of the room, then downstairs and was taken into custody.
About an hour earlier, SWAT officers fired rubber bullets at the window of the room, then made an announcement for the suspect to surrender. Guests were evacuated from rooms, news outlets reported.
