The suspect was fired on near the intersection of East 90th Street and Juniper Street in Firestone Park around 3:50 a.m., said Sheriff's Sgt. Harry Drucker. No deputies were hurt.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department did not immediately detail what prompted the shooting, which will be subject to several investigations.
From Sandra Endo:
A deputy involved shooting leaves one suspect in the hospital and one deputy with an injured hand. It happened inside a tow yard on Juniper and 89th street in an unincorporated area of LA north of Watts.
Deputies responded to a possible robbery call at the tow yard at around 3:50am and found a man inside a car refusing to come out.
The suspect used the vehicle and hit one deputy on the hand. More deputies arrived on the scene and Lt. Steve Jauch says "the deputies used non lethal methods to try to get the man out of the car but nothing worked." That's when the suspect used the car to ram a tow truck and drove towards another deputy who was con foot.
That deputy opened fire and shot the suspect in the upper torso.
The suspect is in the hospital expected to survive. The deputy with the injured hand is also being treated at a local hospital
