Explosives found in Valley Glen neighborhood

Authorities were investigating after explosives were found in Los Angeles' Valley Glen neighborhood on Wednesday morning. 

What we know:

Officials said a woman in her 80s was in her garage when she made the shocking discovery in her freezer, which prompted a large police presence. 

A bomb squad with the Los Angeles Police Department was called to the 6100 block of Rhodes Avenue, near the intersection of Whitsett Avenue and Oxnard Street, around 9:10 a.m.

Evacuations were temporarily issued in the immediate area before they were lifted by 3 p.m. The explosives have since been removed from the home and taken to a secure location. 

Investigators believe the 20 sticks of dynamite belonged to the homeowner's late husband. The type of dynamite is often used in construction for commercial blasting operations.
