Howling Santa Ana winds fuel Equestrian Fire in Castaic

An 86-acre brush fire, being called the Equestrian Fire, broke out in the Castaic area early Monday morning, fire officials said.

The fire was reported by a passing motorist just before 3:45 a.m. near the Jack Bones Equestrian Center.

Initially, the fire was 5 acres and quickly grew to 20 acres after the brush fire was fueled by howling Santa Ana winds, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

With a Red Flag Warning in place, strike teams were stationed in the area, which allowed for a quick response.

Authorities have not issued any evacuation orders.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
