Crews battled brushfires in Sylmar and Castaic on Monday during red flag conditions.
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - An 86-acre brush fire, being called the Equestrian Fire, broke out in the Castaic area early Monday morning, fire officials said.
The fire was reported by a passing motorist just before 3:45 a.m. near the Jack Bones Equestrian Center.

An 86-acre brush fire, being called the Equestrian Fire, broke out in the Castaic area early Monday morning, fire officials said.
Initially, the fire was 5 acres and quickly grew to 20 acres after the brush fire was fueled by howling Santa Ana winds, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
With a Red Flag Warning in place, strike teams were stationed in the area, which allowed for a quick response.

Two firefighting helicopters and 200 firefighters worked to battle the second-alarm fire.
The latest numbers provided by fire officials indicate the fire has grown to 86 acres and is 60% contained.
Authorities have not issued any evacuation orders.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
