FOX 11 News In Depth: Rose Parades Of The Past

It's Winter 1890, first day of the new year, Pasadena's Valley Hunt Club created a parade to promote the city, it's beauty and its great weather.

Floats look like horse-drawn chariots and stagecoaches. Five years later they start taking on the appearance of floral floats.

For decades starting January 1, 1949 KTTV brought you the Rose Parade which means we have a lot of great video in our vaults from all those fantastic New Years Day extravaganzas! With the help of the Tournament of Roses we take you back to the first parades beginning in 1890, the first known film of the parade from 1918, an up-close-and-personal look at the Wrigley Mansion that serves as The Tournament House, you'll meet this year's Queen and her Court, and much more.

SEGMENT ONE: Joining us for the first segment Olympic Gold Medalist and last year's Grand Marshal Janet Evans. We look at the history of the Parade, it's impact and here her feelings as she rode down Colorado Blvd as one of Grand Marshals of the last Rose Parade.

See the rooms where Mrs. Wrigley watched the parade, the Queen and her Court assemble and meet longtime Tournament volunteer Charlie Wood and Tournament President Lance Tibbet. And, Janet Evans returns to continue our chat.
