Former governors Schwarzenegger and Brown honored for achieving solar energy goal

Two governors and a million solar roofs! Former governors Jerry Brown and Arnold Schwarzenegger were honored in Clovis for their work on climate change.

California reached a goal: having a million solar roofs. In 2006, then-Governor Schwarzenegger signed the Million Solar Roofs Initiative into law, which set a goal of building a million solar energy systems on homes, schools, farms, and businesses throughout the state.

Schwarzenegger and Brown were honored Thursday at a high school in Fresno County for their achievement; they were joined by high school students, solar business leaders, community leaders and elected officials.

Now that the state has reached its goal they say they are focusing on a new goal—one million solar batteries.

Those at the event say building a million solar-charged batteries will them reach the state's 100% clean energy goals reliably, safely, and cost-effectively.
