LOS ANGELES - The backyard of Miry Whitehill's home looks more like a storage unit. It's stacked full of bins with household items like mops, dish soap, deodorant, children's toys and welcome cards. It serves as storage for items to welcome "new arrival refugee families."
This "movement of neighbors and friends dedicated to welcoming" refugees got major recognition. They are among the 56 LA organizations honored ahead of Super Bowl LVI coming to Sofi Stadium in February of 2022.
Miry's List has been in action since 2018. They have recently rolled out the LA welcome mat to refugees from Afghanistan and the U.S. left that country this summer after the longest war.
Each week in Community Champions, FOX 11 will showcase another grant recipient leading up to Super Bowl 2022 in Los Angeles. For more information on the Super Bowl LVI Legacy Program and the selected nonprofit organizations, click here.
