Cat bound with electrical tape found in Santa Clarita

Sheriff's deputies checking a suspicious car behind a Canyon Country shopping center found a cat bound with electrical tape, authorities said Monday.

It happened at around midnight Sunday behind the shopping center at Soledad Canyon and Sand Canyon roads, said Sgt. Daniel Stanley of the Santa Clarita Sheriff's Station.

Deputies found the occupants of the car in possession of narcotics. And Deputy Adam Halloran told reporters he heard the sound of a cat in distress.

"I asked one of the suspects, `Is there a cat in the car?' and she said yes,'' Halloran said.

He found a cat carrier with a cat buried upside-down inside, her paws each individually taped with electrical tape then both of the cat's front and hind legs were bound together.

After deputies freed her feet, Animal Control officers took the cat. The owner faced animal cruelty charges in addition to drug charges, authorities said.
