ATLANTA - People from around the world are flocking to Atlanta to sleep under the stars, connect with nature, and experience a very special treehouse.
Peter Bahouth, a 3D photographer and artist, built the structure in his backyard. It has become the most-wished-for listing worldwide on the website Airbnb. "I think it's an uncomplicated response to a messy world," said Bahouth.
The treehouse took around six months of planning, and another six weeks to build. Many of the materials used in its construction were reclaimed from other buildings.
A total of three structures occupy seven trees in a heavily wooded area just minutes from downtown Atlanta. The three living spaces, which include a living room, bedroom, and outdoor deck, represent mind, body and spirit.
Many guests come to escape a stressful world. "I've had women bring their husbands here after three tours in Iraq, [their husbands] haven't been able to sleep, and they sleep like babies out here," said Bahouth.
Other people come to disconnect from their phones and reconnect with each other. "It was so quiet, so tranquil; it was really fun," said Laura Lourenco Jenkins, who traveled from Chicago with her husband to stay in the treehouse.
Bahouth says his guest book is filled with many amazing stories. According to Bahouth, "there's a feel about this place, people come and they say, 'Well the pictures don't do the place justice.'"
