Video shows moments leading up to violent robbery on DC sidewalk
WASHINGTON - A man is recovering after being badly beaten and robbed by a group of juveniles--ranging in age from 10 to 17-- as he walked down a sidewalk on Thursday evening. Surveillance video provided to FOX 5 by a neighbor shows what happened in the moments leading up to the violent attack.
The attack happened in the 1800 block of Newton Street NW, in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood. Police say the suspects beat the man and took his wallet and cell phone. In the surveillance video, the victim is seen walking down the sidewalk. One suspect hurries after him, and shortly after that a large group runs behind them.
Witnesses who saw what was happening quickly called 911. When officers arrived, they spotted four juveniles running in a nearby alley, and caught up to them. The suspects were in possession of the victim's credit cards and phone, and they had blood on their clothing. All four juveniles were arrested.
The victim returned home from the hospital on Friday.
