Two men killed, third injured in car crash into pole
NEWHALL, Calif. (FOX 11 / CNS) - Two men were killed in a traffic accident and a third man was hospitalized in critical condition this morning in Newhall, a sheriff's sergeant said.
The crash took place in the 23200 block of Sierra Highway about 1 a.m., said Sgt. David Shoemaker, watch sergeant at the sheriff's Santa Clarita station.
"For some reason the car veered off the road and slammed into an Edison pole,'' Shoemaker said.
The two men died at the scene. Their names were withheld pending notification of next of kin. A third man was transported to a hospital in critical condition, Shoemaker added.
Shoemaker said investigators don't yet know if drugs or alcohol or excessive speed was involved in the crash.
"We will have to wait for autopsies to come back to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this accident,'' Shoemaker said.
