Top Property: Cape Cod style home overlooking Lake Sherwood

Most of the homes I’ve toured thus far either have views of the Pacific or are actually on the ocean, but not this week’s Top Property.

This one is our first lakeside home and it’s brought to us by Satch Herrmann of Sotheby’s International Realty.

296 David Lane is one of the coveted homes that line the serene and sought-after Lake Sherwood in Westlake Village. The quaint cottage-style home sits on the hill, just feet from the lake and, unlike many of the houses here, includes a private dock and access to all of Lake Sherwood.

Built in 1936, Herrmann says the 2,500 sq. ft. 3-bedroom, 4-bathroom home has been remodeled with Cape Cod in mind, from the tongue and groove exposed beam ceilings to the hardwood custom flooring. Still, modern touches are sprinkled in throughout.

In fact, Herrmann highlights the modernized kitchen. Pointing to the center island, he said, “One of my favorite parts of the house is this gold onyx.”

The bedrooms, however, two of which are downstairs with private entrances, are traditional.

Outside, patriotic patios are to be enjoyed in the lush backyard.

Of course, the main attraction is the lake itself and with the seller’s boat on-hand, Herrmann obliges and takes us for a cruise. It doesn’t take long to figure out this agent’s secret weapon.

“If a client asks to get a boat ride, you say ‘sure thing?’ I ask. “I’m taking them,” Herrmann answers without hesitation.

I don’t blame him. Once you see the Sherwood swans, this place is even harder to resist.

Asking price for this New England lifestyle in Ventura County: $3,250,000.
