Suspicious package inside City of Hope hospital building prompts evacuations

IRWINDALE, Calif. (FOX 11) - A suspicious package was found in a mail room at a City of Hope hospital support services building in Iriwndale Tuesday afternoon prompting an investigation that included a bomb squad and hazmat team.

Shortly after 2 p.m., Irwindale police say a hospital employee discovered a package inside the mailroom that was "suspicious in nature, according to the hospital's protocols."

At least one hundred employees were evacuated from the building located at 2240 Buena Vista Street, according to authorities.

The main hospital, which is in Duarte about a half-mile from the affected building, remained opened during the incident.

Authorities cleared the scene Tuesday evening after determining the package was safe.
