Some Saddleridge Fire area residents allowed back into homes to retrieve valuables

Tens of thousands of people are still under evacuation orders in the Saddleridge Fire area. On Friday evening, some of them got a chance to make a quick trip home even as the flames continue to burn.

The wildfire has already burned at least 7,542 acres and approximately 23,000 homes are under mandatory evacuations -- That's about 100,000 people still not back home.

At 5 p.m. Friday, residents who are under mandatory evacuation and whose homes are north of the 118 Freeway were allowed to be escorted to their homes by LAPD officers and given five minutes to get important documents, medication, small pets, and other valuables.

FOX 11 reporter Ed Laskos was allowed to go along with one of the escorted trips. Play the video above to watch the full story.
