Sheriff's deputy shoots and wounds man at City of Industry 7-Eleven

A man was wounded and transported to a hospital in unknown condition following a deputy-involved shooting in the City of Industry.

A deputy came upon a single vehicle crash about 3:20 a.m. in the 2600 block of Pellissier Place and noticed a man and woman outside the vehicle arguing, then witnessed the man begin to strike the woman, according to Sgt. A. Kneubuhler of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Industry Station.

The deputy attempted to intervene and the man charged the deputy and a struggle began for the deputy's weapon, Kneubuhler said.

The deputy was able to gain control of his weapon and shoot the suspect once in the lower stomach, who then ran into a nearby 7-Eleven where he grabbed a clerk and dragged her into a storage room and held her hostage, he said.

The clerk was able to escape the suspect's grasp and run out of the room and the suspect crawled out a few minutes later and surrendered, Kneubuhler said.

The woman who was struck by the suspect was transported to a hospital in unknown condition.

The deputy was not injured.
