Sheriff's deputy injured while serving search warrant in South El Monte

A sheriff's deputy accidentally shot himself in a leg Thursday while serving a narcotics search warrant in South El Monte, authorities said.

The injury, described as not life-threatening, occurred about 5 a.m. at a residence in the 11200 block of Broadmead Street, according to the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

The deputy suffered a self-inflicted wound to the lower part of the leg while he and other deputies from the Narcotics Bureau were serving a search warrant, the sheriff's department said.

Four people were taken into custody for questioning.
