Pro golfer Bill Haas, Luke Wilson involved in deadly Ferrari crash in Pacific Palisades

Professional golfer Bill Haas was injured in Pacific Palisades in a crash that killed the driver of the Ferrari in which Hass was a passenger and injured the driver of another vehicle, it was reported Wednesday.

But Haas, who earlier had been reported to be stable with serious injuries, was released from the hospital early this morning, his manager, Allen Hobbs, said in a statement. He added that Haas will be heading home to Greenville, South Carolina, rather than play in the Genesis Open, which starts at Riviera Golf Course in Pacific Palisades Thursday.

A third vehicle, driven by actor Luke Wilson, also was involved in the crash when it was clipped by one of the other vehicles, but Wilson did not sustain serious injuries, according to the website golfdigest.com.

The rollover collision was reported about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of Chautauqua Boulevard, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department. One person was pronounced dead at the scene and two other people, a 35-year-old man reported to be Haas and a 50-year-old woman, were in serious condition when taken to a hospital, Stewart said.

The crash involved a Ferrari and a BMW, according to a report from the scene.

Haas, a six-time PGA Tour winner and the son of professional golfer Jay Haas, was here for the Genesis Open, which will be played at Riviera Golf Course in Pacific Palisades starting Thursday. The event's pro-am component, involving professionals and amateurs, will be played today.

A statement released this morning on behalf of the PGA Tour and Hobbs said:

"Last night in Pacific Palisades, California, Bill Haas was involved in a serious car accident in which the driver -- a member of the family with whom Haas and his family were staying for the Genesis Open -- was killed. While Bill escaped serious injuries and has been released from the hospital, he is understandably shaken up and -- more importantly -- his deepest condolences go out to the host family during this tragic and difficult time.

"... He appreciates the support of friends, family and the golf world as a whole, and he has asked for privacy as he processes what has happened.''
