Police seek 'person of interest' in 9-year old sex assault at SoCal mall

PUENTE HILLS, Calif. (FOX 11 / CNS) - Authorities sought the public's help Friday to identity and locate a man who is a person of interest in the investigation of a sexual assault of a 9-year-old boy at the Puente Hills Mall in Industry.

The boy reported that he was inappropriately touched about 6:50 p.m. on July 8 by a man at the mall located in the 1600 block of South Azusa Avenue, according to Deputy Trina Schrader of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

The assault was reported to mall security shortly after the incident occurred,'' Schrader said.

The person of interest, who was captured on security video, is described as Hispanic, 35- to 40-years old, and standing 5-feet-10 inches to 6-feet tall. He was clean-shaven with black and gray hair that is thinning on top, and he was wearing a blue shirt.

Anyone with information about the man was urged to call the Sheriff's Special Victims Unit at (877) 710-5273. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
