Police officer taken to hospital after possible fentanyl exposure while searching vehicle in North Hollywood

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - First responders are on scene of a hazmat incident involving fentanyl in the 5000 block of Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood Friday afternoon.
Los Angeles police officers responded to someone brandishing a gun in the area earlier in the day and as they searched the suspect's vehicle, officers spotted an open container of fentanyl, according to LAPD.

LAPD says one officer was taken to a local hospital after possibly being exposed to fentanyl.
One person is in custody. The public is being asked to avoid the area as fire crews and law enforcement continue to investigate.
