Owner of rental company denies business scam, offers customer refunds
(FOX 11) - The door is locked and the business is dark at Sun City Group.
The downtown rental company abruptly closed up shop Monday and customers said they've been scammed out of hundreds of dollars.
"If they tell you $245 and they'll find you a place its not real," one customer, Jennifer, said.
Other customers said they paid for the promise they'd be set up with rental properties, but they said the company gave them the run around and never found them a place to live.
"I went to the locations, I picked the houses out, I called them and they said make an appointment, but they didn't pick up anymore," Jennifer said.
Frustrated, several victims contacted FOX 11 for help.
FOX 11 tracked down a person listed on financial documents for the company's lease for the storefront on Alameda and Washington.
The man said he had nothing to do with the businesses, but admitted leasing the property for a friend.
"I leased the property because she has no credit," he said.
He also said he didn't know the businesses had closed and we needed to speak with another woman whose name also appears on business documents.
We tried to contact her at a listed address, but there was no answer.
She later called us by phone and asked that we not record the call.
She denied the business was a scam and said she would try to make it right with her customers and provide refunds.
She asked customers to email suncitygroup25@gmail.com
Several customers told FOX 11 they've filed police reports.
