One of LA's steepest streets is getting a safety makeover
(FOX 11) - Finally!
That's what residents of one LA neighborhood are saying about changes to a dangerous situation caused by popular traffic apps.
Wow... That was what I was feeling as I powered my little car up Baxter Street, one of the steepest in LA, probably even San Fran. When you get to the top it's like coming to the top of a roller coaster. You can't see the other side, and for a minute you're blind as your car 's nose rises rises rises then slowly the front comes down and you're back to reality in the middle of an increasingly busy intersection.
Baxter and it's parallel cousin, Fargo, have been the latest favorites of Waze and Google Maps, sending motorists unfamiliar with the particular characteristics of these streets onto them in the morning and evening rush hours. I'm all for saving time in traffic but if you lived here.
Well, you wouldn't be happy. After fielding months of complaints the City of LA and the Dept. Of Transportation are taking action, converting streets to one way adding turn restrictions, more stop signs, and promising increased police patrols. Better late than never, and well, I guess that means we'll just have to deal with traffic like we used to, like we always do.
