One dead, three injured in Long Beach street shooting

A shooting on a Long Beach street claimed the life of one young man and left three others hospitalized Tuesday, two in serious condition and one critically wounded, police said.

The shooting took place in the 1200 block of East 17th Street in Long Beach around 8:40 p.m. Monday, said Long Beach Lt. Paul Baum. The shooter remains at large.

"The men were shot on the street,'' Baum said this morning. "We don't know what happened or if it was gang-related at this point.''

One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene, Baum said. His name was withheld pending family notification. A woman who identified herself as the deceased victim's grandmother told reporters her grandson was 19-years-old and was survived by his year-old daughter, according to media reports.

Another of the victims was in very critical condition, and the other two were in serious but stable condition this morning, according to Baum.

Baum also said homicide detectives were at the scene early today. But police did not immediately develop information on a suspect or a motive.

However, they were collecting video from around the scene in hopes it will show the attack.
